Golf

While medical students, living at the Westminster medical School Hostel (the Doss), Keith and I decided we wanted to get into golf. We attended an 8 week beginners course on summer evenings in Redhill and started playing at Dulwich & Sydenham Hill GC where the Hospital had a concession for students. The tee markers were made of cast concrete cubes. On one occasion while Keith was teeing off and I was standing behind watching, his ball hit the ladies tee marker a few feet in front and whistled past the side of my head before I could move. I very nearly, literally had my eye on the ball. On another occasion, at a hospital Golf Day, he played a stroke from the fairway and was so frustrated with the resultant shot, he just let go of his club at the end of the swing. The club sailed into a massive yew tree/bush. As poor students we could hardly afford to lose our golf balls, let alone our clubs, so we spent the next 20 minutes searching for his wayward club in the branches of that blasted yew!
